Q: What is Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST) doing?  
  A: As an organization which plays a central role in the implementation of the Science and Technology Basic Plan, Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST) comprehensively promotes all of the process from the creation of knowledge, which leads to innovation in Japan, to the return of research results to the society/nation. As the bases of such process, JST also provides scientific and technical information, increases the understanding of science and technology (S&T), and promotes strategic international activities.  
   
 
Q: What kind of activities is JST doing?  
  A: Specific JST programs are conducted in accordance with the mid-term plan compiled by JST and approved by the Government, in order to achieve the mid-term objectives set by the Government. During the second mid-term plan (April 2007-March 2012), the following five activities are being carried out: Creating advanced technology; Promoting business using advanced technology; Promoting dissemination of scientific and technological information; Researcher exchange and research support; and Promoting understanding of science and technology by the public. When the mid-term plan has been completed, a thorough evaluation will be conducted, and the results of the evaluation will be reflected in the next mid-term plan.  
   
 
Q: How many people are working at JST?  
  A: The number of Permanent staff is 471 in Fiscal 2007. Moreover, JST employs additional research and support staff, bringing the total to roughly 3,000 worldwide.  
   
 
Q: When was the JST Washington, D.C. Office founded?  
  A: The JST Washington, D.C. Office was officially established in December, 2004. Please click here for more details.  
   
 
Q: What is the Washington, D.C. Office of JST doing?  
  A: The Washington, D.C. Office was established to focus on strengthening cooperation as well as promoting mutual understanding between JST and our scientist, researchers and counterpart organizations in the United States. The Office is collecting, analyzing and evaluating information on US science and technology, coordinating/supporting training courses and seminars of JST held in the United States, and also acting as a liaison to US counterpart organizations and agencies.  
   
 
Q: Where is JST headquarters?  
  A: JST is headquartered out of Saitama and Tokyo, Japan.  
   
 
Q: Are there any overseas offices of JST, except Washington, D.C.?  
  A: We have other oversea offices in Paris (France), Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia) and Beijing (China). Please click here for more details.
